Voices in the Head

So much for the Light Side, hrmmm? the voice purred in Trever's mind as he stared at the droid he and Kale had been making before everything happened. They took away your other half. The other half of your soul. The other part of your being.

Trever didn't answer it. He just picked up a part and put it down. Picked up another one and put it down as well. Kale wouldn't leave the bedroom and he couldn't stand to be near him, looking like that, unable to feel him. Unable to know him.

He promised that he wouldn't hurt Kale. That he cared about him. He must have been jealous of the two of you. How close you were. He wanted to take him away from you, make him like him. A hole. A nothing. Empty. Such a poor, poor excuse.

"Can't do anything about it."

Not here, you can't.

He paused, one hand over a spanner.

"What do you mean..." he asked softly.

Isn't it funny  the voice said,  that your so-called Master is also torn from the Force and yet he can use it?

"I... never thought of that." He picked up the hydrospannar and looked at it and then looked over a the door to the rest of the house.

The voice turned smug, You can have him back. It's possible. I can show you.

"Maybe..."

You just need to come back. And then the two of us will fix everything.

Trever needs to stop talking out loud to the voices in his head. He gives Axis a tired look. He hasn't been sleeping well, when he can sleep. And now there's Axis there. Who's son totally ruined his life. He considers yelling at the man, but just can't work up the effort.

So, he shrugs.

Axis raises an eyebrow. "Go ahead and yell at me, if you like. Though you look like you haven't slept. Talked to Toby." In a manner of speaking. "He suggested I lend you an ear, since the only others you have aren't exactly neutral on the topic."

"Yelling at you won't fix Kale," he says. Won't fix us. Won't make me whole.

But there are other ways. If the Exile could do it...but he's selfish and wants Kale to himself. He doesn't want to fix him.

"That isn't something y'can fix, you know. Make it a lot worse, maybe. But not fix it."

His head twitches like he caught part of that.

He looks down at the hydrospanner and sets it on the floor. He picks up the laser screwdriver and twists a few screws half-heartedly. "How can it be made worse?"

The voice falls silent, but Trever can tell it's studying Axis.

"Like with Tobias. You don't think he started off able to do that, do you?"

If it studies enough, the spirit in there that's Axis just might notice. The body, John, is too busy thinking about other things, like homework. The square root of i to the fourth is...

"To do what?" The screwdriver is put down and he stares at the droid.

Rip people's lives away. the voice suggested. It's still studying Axis.

"Sever others from the Force. You really don't think he's been able to do that all those years, do you?" He scratches his chin idlly. "If he had, he would've killed the Council when they Exiled him."

Axis does indeed notice this. He does have some profeciency with mental manipulation (thanks to his time in Revan's body), and throws up some decently strong mental barriers.

One screw. Two screws. He put them in a neat pile. Where was that other part? Kale had been working on it. Where did he put it? He couldn't remember.

"What does that have to do with Kale? You think he might be able to do that?"

The voice retreats after brushing against the barriers. It's not being invasive.

"It could happen, yes. It's not exactly a happy existance from what I've seen, though."

How is it any better than him now? the voice suggested.

Trever repeated it. "How is it any better than how he is now?"

There was the part. He picked it up and studied it. He couldn't remember what it was for. It was as if half of his memories were missing.

"He much prefered not being able to feel the Force, since it meant he wasn't just somebody's weapon to wipe the Force from the galaxy."

Trever viciously stabbed the droid causing it to spark.

Serve the universe right, wouldn't it? Taking him away from you? Taking your father away from you? Making you live in fear? Might be better with out the Force.

"Maybe," he said softly and then to Axis, "He's practically dead. All he does is sleep and when he's awake it's like he's not there and you have to force him to eat or drink."

Axis gives the droid a dispassionate glance.

"You're surprised by that? He has to learn to live like the rest of us do, the same that your Master did. But he didn't have to be awake for the first few months of this anyway."

Poor droid, no one loves it.

"I don't know. I don't know what to expect or anything. I'm still having trouble believing it."

Axis snorts. "Oh, believe it. When they the Force can do terrible things, they mean it. Though Tobias would be the person to talk to about this kind of thing; I only have what I saw in his head to work off of."

Trever tilts his head for a moment and then stands up from the droid he had been abusing. He shoves his hands in his jacket pockets and stares at Axis for a moment.

"Tobias says that Kale needs to figure out who Kale is," he says slowly, eyes never leaving Axis. "Which I suppose means that I have to figure out who I am.

"I only did Tobias cause Kale wanted to. I never did anyone because I wanted to."

"You've been in each others heads too much," he murmurs, the barest trace of amusement in his voice. "Even the Qel-Droma lads weren't so close."

He raises an eyebrow. "Go do someone because you want to, kid."

The Qel-Droma lads probably weren't screwing each other. He gets a distant, distracted look on his face.

He then laughs, "Now?" He then focuses on Axis intently. "You?"

Of course they weren't. Jedi knights and all.

Axis raises an eyebrow at that and barks a laugh. "Only if you particularly enjoy the idea of forcing a minor." He straightens his lean, 17-year-old body.

"No, I suppose not." The hands come out of the pockets and twist around. "I... don't know. I just... want Kale."

He pulls a cigarette and lights it, puffing on it a bit. "You do know that Mandalorians have strong incest taboos and that what you just said disgusts and insults me, right?" he says calmly.

"No. I did not." He tilts his head. "Its not something we discuss really. But since you're already part of the mess..." He shrugs, "However, I'll refrain from talking about it."
